Pruning daffodil — FAQ
When should I prune daffodil?
Deadhead immediately after flowers fade; remove foliage only once fully yellow (late spring to early summer). Snap the spent flower stem just below the old bloom; leave the green stalk. When all leaves are fully straw-coloured, pull or cut them cleanly at ground level.
How often does daffodil need pruning?
Once per season. Daffodils require very little pruning. Remove the spent flower head after blooming to prevent energy going to seed, but leave every leaf untouched until it has completely yellowed and collapsed — typically 6 weeks post-bloom. The foliage is essential for photosynthesising nutrients back into the bulb. Never knot or braid leaves.
