Founder bios
JM
Justas Macys
CEO and co-founder
Justas leads product and strategy at Growli. He started the company after watching too many friends quit gardening because the advice in every app and book never quite fit their climate, their plants, or their soil. His focus is making the daily experience feel like texting a knowledgeable friend rather than operating a database — plain English, honest about limits, and grounded in the gardener's actual conditions.
Nojus leads the engineering behind Growli's conversational AI, the photo-based diagnosis pipeline, and the climate-data infrastructure that grounds every personalised suggestion. He spent years building production AI systems before turning the same toolkit on gardening, where the data is messy, the conditions are hyperlocal, and the cost of bad advice is a dead plant. His bar: if a model isn't sure, the app shouldn't pretend it is.

"I planted my first raised bed in upstate New York and had no idea what I was doing. Growli told me when my last frost actually was for my zip code, walked me through which tomato varieties had a chance in my season length, and pinged me the night before a late frost. I harvested actual tomatoes the first year, which I genuinely did not expect."
US zone 6 vegetable grower — first season
"I had three monsteras and one of them started getting brown crispy edges. I took a photo, Growli asked me two questions about where it sits and how often I water, and told me it was low humidity from the radiator — not overwatering, which is what I would have guessed. Moved the plant, fixed it. The conversation part is what makes it useful."
UK indoor plant parent — Edinburgh, three monsteras
"I retired and started gardening seriously in zone 9b near Austin. Everything the generic guides say about timing is two months off for my microclimate. Growli actually adjusts. I asked it about a weird heatwave in March and it gave me a straight answer about which seedlings to shade — not a generic 'water more' line."
