Cedrus — 11 species
Cedrus — the true cedars — comprises a small group of majestic evergreen conifers including Deodar Cedar from the Himalayas, Atlas Cedar from North Africa, Cedar of Lebanon, and Cyprus Cedar. Grown as specimen landscape trees and in larger containers, they require full sun — at minimum six hours of direct light per day — for dense, healthy needle growth. Established trees are notably drought-tolerant and prefer well-drained soil; avoid waterlogged or heavy clay conditions. Plant in a sheltered spot away from harsh winds. Cedrus species are toxic to cats and dogs, so prevent pets from chewing foliage or bark.
