What's eating my night-blooming jasmine?

Night-blooming Jasmine (Cestrum nocturnum) is most commonly attacked by aphids, spider mites, caterpillars, and whiteflies. Aphids and two-spotted spider mites top the list, especially in warm, dry conditions. Leaf-roller caterpillars can also appear. Neem oil or insecticidal soap handles most outbreaks when caught early.

Dense colonies on shoot tips and flower buds; sticky honeydew, curled leaves, and reduced flowering. Knock off with a water jet; spray with insecticidal soap or neem oil; release ladybugs or lacewings as beneficial predators.

Fine yellow stippling on leaf surfaces; webbing on undersides; leaves may brown and drop in severe cases. Spray leaf undersides with water regularly; apply neem oil or a dedicated miticide; avoid over-fertilizing with nitrogen.

Leaves rolled and tied with silk, with feeding damage inside; irregular holes in foliage. Unroll affected leaves and remove caterpillars by hand; spray with Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) for heavier infestations.

Adults fly up in clouds when plant is touched; yellowing, weakened leaves with sooty mold on honeydew below. Use yellow sticky traps; apply insecticidal soap or neem oil to leaf undersides; remove badly affected shoots.
