What's eating my golden malayan dwarf coconut?

Golden Malayan Dwarf Coconut faces the same pest spectrum as other Cocos nucifera cultivars — red palm mite is the most widespread threat, while palm weevils are the most lethal. Dwarf stature makes inspection easier and allows earlier intervention, which is the best defence for this variety.

Stippled, bronzed fronds with silvery undersides; heavily infested leaves yellow and drop early. Apply horticultural oil or abamectin miticide to the undersides of all fronds. Repeat applications every 7–10 days for two to three cycles. Avoid broad-spectrum insecticides that kill predatory mites.

Flat, translucent scale covers on fronds and fruit; yellowing and premature fruit drop under heavy load. Scrub off armored scales with a soft brush dipped in soapy water. Apply horticultural oil sprays to suffocate remaining crawlers. Parasitic wasps (Comperiella sp.) provide long-term suppression.

Spear leaf wilts and smells of fermentation; larvae hollow out the crown. Avoid injuries to the trunk — use sharp, clean tools and seal pruning wounds. Apply preventive imidacloprid trunk injections in high-risk areas. Remove infested palms immediately to prevent weevil dispersal.
