How to prune senita cactus

Late spring, during active growth. Cut damaged or rotten stems at the base using a sharp, sterilised knife or pruning saw. Allow cut surfaces to dry and callous for several days in shade before the wound is exposed to direct sun or water.

Rarely — only to remove diseased or dead growth. Senita Cactus is a columnar species with mature stems that develop bristle-like spines at the top — this is natural and should not be removed.
