How to prune bird's nest fern 'crissie'

Any time of year as needed. Cut individual spent fronds at their base using sterilised scissors, working carefully around the central nest. Never remove healthy fronds unnecessarily, and avoid disturbing the central crown where new fronds unfurl.

As needed, every 4–6 weeks. Bird's Nest Fern 'Crissie' needs very little pruning. Remove dead, yellowed, or damaged fronds by cutting them at the base. Never cut into the central rosette or 'nest' — this growing point is critical and cutting it will kill the plant. Otherwise, leave it alone; it grows slowly and needs no shaping.
