When should I prune bird's nest fern?
Any time of year as individual fronds die back. Use clean scissors to snip off fully dead fronds at the base of the stipe (stem), as close to the crown as possible without nicking it. For brown leaf tips only, trim at an angle to mimic the natural frond shape rather than cutting straight across.
How often does bird's nest fern need pruning?
As needed; remove dead fronds whenever they appear. Bird's Nest Fern needs no pruning in the traditional sense. Never cut into the central rosette — damaging the crown can kill the plant.
