Pruning prayer plant — FAQ
When should I prune prayer plant?
Spring or early summer. Cut stems just above a node using clean scissors, which prompts branching below the cut. Remove dead or discoloured leaves at their base. Prunings can be rooted in water for new plants.
How often does prayer plant need pruning?
1–2 times per year, or as needed to remove dead growth. Prayer plant (Maranta leuconeura) benefits from occasional pruning to prevent it becoming straggly. Trim long stems back to just above a leaf node to encourage compact growth. Remove any dead or yellowing leaves at the base. It is not a demanding plant to prune — occasional tidying a couple of times a year is enough.
