How to prune all gold lemon balm

Late spring before flowering, then again mid-summer and early autumn. Shear the plant down to 2–3 inches with garden shears or scissors, cutting just above a healthy node. This hard cut triggers a flush of fresh, brightly colored new shoots.

Shear the whole plant to about 2–3 inches above the ground two or three times a season to keep it compact, prevent legginess, and flush fresh golden growth. Left unpruned it flops open, self-seeds aggressively, and the foliage color becomes dull. Cut back hard before it flowers.
