How to prune king palm

Any time fronds or flower stalks are fully dead. Cut dead fronds cleanly at the base with loppers or a pruning saw. Spent flower stalks can be cut where they attach to the crownshaft.

As needed (a few times per year). King Palm (Archontophoenix cunninghamiana) needs only dead-frond removal. Cut fully brown, dead fronds at the base — never remove green or yellowing fronds, as this stresses the palm and strips stored nutrients. The crownshaft self-cleans, so spent flower and fruit stalks also drop naturally or can be removed.
