Remove dead or yellow stems as needed year-round; cold-damage clearance in spring. Cut individual yellowing or dead stems at the base, as close to the crown as possible, using clean secateurs. Do not shear the whole plant unless recovering from frost damage — remove only what is clearly dead.

As needed — typically a few stems every few weeks during active growth. Papyrus needs minimal pruning. Remove individual stems that turn yellow or brown at the base to keep the plant looking its best and to improve air circulation.
