How to prune chilean wine palm

Any time of year, as needed when fronds are fully dead. Use a sharp, sterilised saw or loppers to cut dead fronds as close to the trunk as possible without damaging the trunk tissue. Never remove green or partially green fronds.

As needed — typically only a few fronds per year. Chilean Wine Palm rarely needs pruning. Remove only fully dead or brown fronds by cutting cleanly at the base — never cut green fronds, as this slows the palm's already very slow growth. Avoid over-pruning; leaving slightly yellow fronds a little longer lets the palm reabsorb nutrients before removal.
