Golden everlasting problems — and how to fix them
Golden everlasting (Xerochrysum bracteatum) is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Root and stem rot
Caused by waterlogged or poorly drained soil. Ensure excellent drainage and avoid overwatering, especially in humid climates or heavy clay soils.
Botrytis (grey mould)
Grey fuzzy patches on stems and flowers in cool, wet conditions. Improve air circulation, remove spent blooms promptly, and avoid overhead irrigation.
Aphids
Clusters on new growth and buds, distorting stems. Knock off with a strong water jet or apply insecticidal soap. Encourage ladybirds and lacewings as natural predators.
