Philodendrons are one of the most popular genera in indoor gardening, encompassing vigorous climbers like Heartleaf philodendron and Philodendron Brasil as well as the velvety Philodendron micans. Most tolerate a wide range of indoor light conditions but grow best in bright, indirect light. Water when the top inch or two of soil dries out and reduce frequency in winter. All Philodendron species are toxic to cats and dogs — they contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals throughout all parts of the plant — and should be positioned away from curious pets.
