Mentha — 24 species

Mint (Mentha) is a vigorous, aromatic perennial herb encompassing around 20 species — from spearmint and peppermint to the tropical-flavoured Mojito Mint and the bold Horse Mint. Plants spread energetically by underground stolons, so containers are strongly recommended. Grow in full sun to partial shade with consistently moist, fertile soil; never let the root zone dry out completely. All species are toxic to cats and dogs according to the ASPCA — the essential oils (including menthol) can cause vomiting, diarrhoea, and liver stress if ingested in significant quantities.
