Kalanchoe — 22 species
Part of the Stonecrop succulents family (Crassulaceae)
Kalanchoe is a popular succulent genus from Madagascar, grown indoors for its long-lasting clusters of red, orange, yellow, or pink blooms and its minimal care demands. Plants thrive in bright indirect to direct light and prefer the soil to dry out fully between waterings — overwatering is the most common mistake. All Kalanchoe species are toxic to cats and dogs. The plants contain bufadienolide cardiac glycosides that can cause vomiting, diarrhoea, and in severe cases abnormal heart rhythm. Keep Kalanchoe, Panda Plant, Mother of Thousands, and Paddle Plant out of reach of all pets.

Kalanchoe — frequently asked questions
Are Kalanchoe plants toxic to cats and dogs?
Most Kalanchoe are not pet-safe. Of the 22 Kalanchoe species in the Growli library, 22 (100%) carry a toxic or mildly-toxic ASPCA classification and 0 are pet-safe. Always confirm the exact species on its pet-safety page before trusting it around cats or dogs.
How much light do Kalanchoe plants need?
Most Kalanchoe do best in bright indirect light. If yours stretches toward the window or loses its variegation it wants more light; scorched or bleached leaves mean it is getting too much direct sun.
Are Kalanchoe easy to care for?
Kalanchoe are moderate to grow: the main requirement is a genuinely bright spot out of harsh midday sun. Get the light right and the rest of their care follows.
How many Kalanchoe varieties are there?
Growli's care library covers 22 Kalanchoe species and varieties — browse them all above. They share a similar light, water and soil pattern, so once you learn one Kalanchoe, the rest follow closely.
