Hakonechloa7 species

Hakonechloa is a graceful, shade-loving ornamental grass genus native to the mountain woodlands of Japan, best represented by cultivars such as Hakonechloa macra 'All Gold' and 'Aureola'. Its arching, bamboo-like foliage cascades elegantly and puts on a warm amber colour in autumn. It performs best in partial to full shade — variegated and golden cultivars tolerate brief morning sun but scorch in hot afternoon light. Keep the soil consistently moist and mulch to retain moisture. All Hakonechloa species are toxic to cats and dogs, so place them out of pets' reach.
