Genus guide
Echeveria — 45 species
Echeveria is a large genus of rosette-forming succulents native to semi-arid regions of Mexico and Central America, prized for their sculptural, fleshy leaves in colours ranging from silvery blue-green to deep burgundy. They thrive in bright direct light — a south- or west-facing windowsill is ideal — and need watering only when the soil is completely dry, making them highly drought-tolerant. Good drainage is non-negotiable. Echeveria are non-toxic to cats and dogs according to the ASPCA, making them a genuinely pet-safe choice.
