Coreopsis — 24 species
Part of the Daisy & aster family family (Asteraceae)
Coreopsis, commonly called tickseed, is a genus of cheerful, daisy-like flowering plants native to the Americas, spanning annuals and perennials such as Plains Coreopsis, Tall Coreopsis, Prairie Coreopsis, and Hairy Coreopsis. They are among the easiest garden perennials to grow: they demand full sun (at least six hours daily) and tolerate drought, poor soils, and heat with ease once established, needing supplemental water only during extended dry spells. The ASPCA confirms Coreopsis is non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it an excellent choice for pet-friendly garden borders.

Coreopsis — frequently asked questions
Are Coreopsis plants toxic to cats and dogs?
Most Coreopsis are pet-safe. Of the 24 Coreopsis species we cover, 24 are non-toxic on the ASPCA list and 0 carry a toxic or mildly-toxic rating. Even so, confirm the individual species before trusting it around pets.
How much light do Coreopsis plants need?

Some Coreopsis suit more experienced growers — several want strong light, sharp drainage or a specific seasonal rhythm. Check the individual species page for the exact regime.
