Genus guide
Bulbophyllum — 15 species
Bulbophyllum is one of the largest orchid genera, spanning thousands of species from tropical Africa, Asia, and Australia. Distinctive pseudobulbs store water, and blooms range from the spectacularly fringed Bulbophyllum barbigerum to the showy Elizabeth Ann and the dramatic Medusa Orchid. Grow in bright indirect light, water frequently to keep the medium just moist, and maintain high humidity around 60–70 %. Air circulation is essential to prevent fungal disease. According to ASPCA, all Bulbophyllum orchids are non-toxic to cats and dogs, making them a safe choice for pet households.
