Arisaema — 16 species
Arisaema is a genus of dramatic, shade-loving aroids best known for species like Jack-in-the-Pulpit and the striking Cobra Lily. These tuberous perennials thrive in dappled to deep shade and prefer consistently moist, humus-rich soil — never letting the root zone dry out during active growth, though watering should ease off once the plant goes dormant. Safety warning: all Arisaema species contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals and are toxic to cats and dogs, causing oral irritation, drooling, and vomiting if ingested.
