What's eating my wedge-shaped miltonia?

Wedge-Shaped Miltonia (Miltonia cuneata) is most at risk from spider mites in warm, dry rooms. Like other cool-to-intermediate Miltonia species, it suffers more in low humidity, which favors mite explosions. Scale and mealybugs are secondary threats on pseudobulbs. Weekly inspection and steady airflow are the most effective preventive measures.

Fine silvery mottling across leaf blades; tiny moving dots visible with a hand lens; premature leaf yellowing. Raise humidity above 50%, apply neem oil or insecticidal soap spray to both leaf surfaces, repeat weekly for at least three weeks.

Oval brown or tan bumps adhered to pseudobulbs and undersides of lower leaves; sticky residue and sooty mold. Scrape scales off manually, wipe with alcohol, then treat the whole plant with neem oil spray. Repeat every two weeks.

White cottony masses at pseudobulb bases and in leaf sheaths; weakened growth; honeydew attracting mold. Dab with isopropyl alcohol swab, isolate the plant, and spray with neem oil or insecticidal soap weekly until clear.
