What's eating my venus flytrap 'dente'?

Venus Flytrap Dente has few natural pest enemies but is vulnerable to fungus gnats (whose larvae attack roots in moist, peat-based soil) and aphids on new growth. Spider mites can appear in very dry conditions. Avoid fertilizing — this lures pests without benefit. Use distilled water and a nutrient-poor medium to keep the plant healthy.

Larvae feed on roots and the base of traps in moist soil; traps may blacken prematurely; plant weakens. Use only distilled or rainwater; keep the soil tray technique correctly so only the base stays wet; apply Bti soil drench; use yellow sticky traps for adults.

Soft-bodied insects on new growth and flower stems; distorted leaves and honeydew residue. Remove manually or rinse with distilled water; apply insecticidal soap carefully, avoiding the trap interiors.
