What's eating my vanda 'fuchs delight'?

Vanda 'Fuchs Delight' is a warm-growing tropical hybrid with large showy blooms, suited to a humid greenhouse or bright warm room. Spider mites are the most common indoor pest in dry conditions. Mealybugs infest leaf axils and exposed roots. Thrips scar the flowers. Daily misting of bare roots and leaves keeps most pests at bay.

Bronze or silver stippling on the strap leaves and webbing in leaf axils; plants weaken quickly in hot dry rooms. Increase humidity by misting daily or using a humid greenhouse environment; spray with insecticidal soap or neem oil every 5–7 days.

White waxy deposits in leaf axils, on root necks, and along aerial roots; honeydew attracts sooty mold. Spot-treat with isopropyl alcohol; follow with a whole-plant neem oil spray including aerial roots, repeating weekly.

Hard scale shells on leaves and along aerial roots; reduced vigour and pale, yellowing foliage. Physically remove with a soft brush, then apply horticultural oil to all affected surfaces; repeat the treatment after two weeks.
