What's eating my tillandsia polystachia?

Tillandsia polystachia, like most air plants, is vulnerable to scale insects and mealybugs — both can colonise the overlapping leaf bases where moisture collects after misting. Spider mites strike in very dry indoor air. Being epiphytic with no soil, it avoids fungus gnats entirely. Regular inspection after misting catches problems early.
