What's eating my summer impala lily?

Summer Impala Lily (Adenium swazicum) is a compact summer-blooming Swaziland native highly susceptible to spider mites in the warm conditions it thrives in. Mealybugs are the next most serious threat. Scale and aphids appear occasionally. Its smaller stature means infestations can build quickly — inspect weekly during peak growing season.

Pale speckling and webbing on leaf undersides; leaves bronze, shrivel, and drop; this species is notably susceptible in warm, dry settings. Rinse foliage regularly; spray with neem oil or insecticidal soap every 7 days for at least 3 weeks. Keep humidity up around the plant.

White waxy cottony clusters at stem bases and in growing tip crevices; honeydew attracts mold; growth stalls. Remove with isopropyl alcohol swabs; treat with insecticidal soap spray on 10-day intervals. Check soil surface for soil-dwelling mealybugs.

Flat waxy shields on stems drain sap and weaken the plant; stems may dieback in severe cases. Scrape off manually; apply horticultural oil spray to kill crawlers. Repeat fortnightly through the season.
