What's eating my senecio macroglossus?

Senecio macroglossus (wax ivy or Cape ivy) most commonly attracts aphids and spider mites indoors, especially on the soft succulent-like stems. Mealybugs occasionally colonize stem joints. Overwatered plants are vulnerable to fungus gnats. This South African succulent vine is fairly resilient — catch pests early and treat with neem oil or soap spray.

Clusters of soft-bodied insects on new shoot tips; distorted waxy leaves, sticky honeydew, and sooty mould. Knock off with a firm water spray; treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil spray every 5–7 days for 3 rounds.

Pale stippling on glossy leaves and very fine webbing along stems, especially in dry centrally heated rooms. Wipe leaves with a damp cloth; spray with insecticidal soap or neem oil every 7 days until resolved.

White waxy fluff in stem axils; stunted tips and sticky deposits attract secondary fungal issues. Swab with 70% isopropyl alcohol; follow with repeated neem oil sprays every 10–14 days.
