What's eating my sansevieria hargeisana?

Sansevieria hargeisana is a rare compact snake plant from the Horn of Africa. As a houseplant it faces typical Sansevieria pest threats: mealybugs hiding at the tight leaf bases are the primary concern, followed by spider mites in very dry air. Correct watering habits largely eliminate fungus gnat problems common to many houseplants.
