What's eating my rough blazing star?

Rough blazing star (Liatris aspera) is a tough native prairie plant with relatively few serious pests. Aphids occasionally colonize stem tips, and thrips can scar flower spikes. Rabbits and deer may browse new growth in spring. Its main threat is Liatris stem borers in parts of the Midwest, where larvae tunnel into hollow stems.
