What's eating my rhyncholaeliocattleya 'pastoral innocence'?

Rhyncholaeliocattleya 'Pastoral Innocence', a Cattleya alliance hybrid orchid grown indoors, is most vulnerable to scale insects on its large pseudobulbs and mealybugs at leaf bases. Spider mites cause leaf stippling in dry centrally-heated rooms. Thrips can disfigure its showy white blooms. Inspect under leaf sheaths at every watering.

Hard brown or soft white bumps on pseudobulbs and rhizomes; honeydew and sooty mold follow. Scrape off physically; apply neem oil or horticultural oil spray to all pseudobulb surfaces monthly.

White woolly masses under leaf sheaths and at rhizome junctions; leaves yellow and pseudobulbs shrivel. Peel back sheaths and swab with rubbing alcohol; follow with insecticidal soap drench to bark mix.

Pale silvery stippling across leaf surfaces; fine webbing on undersides in hot dry indoor conditions. Raise humidity, wipe leaves, and apply diluted neem oil or miticide spray every 5–7 days.

Silvery streaking and brown scarring on petals of open flowers; buds may fail to open fully. Remove affected blooms; spray foliage with spinosad or insecticidal soap; place blue sticky traps nearby.
