What's eating my primulina 'dreamtime'?

Primulina 'Dreamtime' is an ornamental indoor gesneriad hybrid with richly marked leaves and lavender blooms. Like other Primulinias grown indoors, it is most susceptible to mealybugs, spider mites in dry conditions, and fungus gnats when compost stays too wet. Mealybugs are the primary pest concern for growers.

White wool in leaf axils and around the stem base; honeydew leads to black sooty mould; growth slows. Remove colonies with an alcohol-dipped swab; follow with weekly neem oil sprays; keep infested plants away from others.

Pale stippling and bronze discolouration of leaves; fine webbing in warm, low-humidity environments. Increase room humidity; spray insecticidal soap or dilute neem oil, paying close attention to leaf undersides.

Larvae damage fine roots causing unexplained wilting; adult gnats hover around the potting mix. Water only when the surface is dry; trap adults with yellow sticky cards; drench soil with Bti to eliminate larvae.
