What's eating my pothos happy leaf?

Pothos Happy Leaf (a compact, ruffled Epipremnum aureum cultivar) shares the pest profile of all pothos: incredibly resilient but not immune. Mealybugs, spider mites, and scale are the most common indoor attackers. Fungus gnats target the soil when overwatered. The ruffled leaves can hide colonies longer than flat-leaved types.

White cottony deposits at stem nodes and where leaves fold; honeydew and yellowing of affected shoots. Dab with alcohol-soaked swabs, spray with neem oil or insecticidal soap, and repeat weekly until clear; isolate the plant.

Pale stippling across leaf surfaces and fine webbing underneath, worst in dry heated indoor air. Shower the plant, raise humidity, and apply neem oil or miticide; ruffled leaves need thorough coverage underneath.

Larvae chew fine roots; adults are visible flying around the pot and soil surface. Allow the top 2 inches of soil to dry between waterings; use sticky traps for adults and hydrogen peroxide soil drench or Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (Bti) for larvae.

Flat brown or tan bumps on stems; leaves yellow and become sticky with honeydew. Scrape off with a toothbrush or cotton swab, then treat with horticultural oil or neem oil spray; monitor new growth closely.
