What's eating my philodendron pink princess?

Philodendron Pink Princess is a tropical aroid that attracts thrips, which scar the prized pink and green variegated leaves, and spider mites in dry conditions. Mealybugs hide at leaf nodes and stem bases. Fungus gnats breed in its consistently moist chunky aroid mix. The pink variegated tissue can be more vulnerable than the green portions.

Silver streaks, brown scarring, or distorted growth on the pink and green leaves; black fecal specks visible; flowers (spathes) may be deformed. Remove damaged leaves; apply insecticidal soap or spinosad spray to all leaf surfaces; use blue sticky traps; repeat every 5–7 days for a minimum of 3 treatments.

Fine webbing and stippled, bronzed discoloration on leaf undersides; the dramatic variegation looks dull and washed-out. Raise ambient humidity; wipe all leaves with a damp cloth; spray with diluted neem oil or insecticidal soap; repeat every 5 days until clear.

White cottony tufts at leaf nodes, petiole bases, and along stems; sticky honeydew; leaf yellowing near infestation sites. Treat on contact with 70% isopropyl alcohol swabs; follow with a full neem oil or insecticidal soap spray; isolate from other aroids immediately.

Adult flies around the pot; larvae in the moist aroid mix damage fine feeder roots, leading to slow growth or yellowing. Allow the top layer of the mix to dry between waterings; use yellow sticky traps; apply a Bti (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis) soil drench to kill larvae.
