What's eating my philodendron gabby?

Philodendron hederaceum 'Gabby' is a variegated heartleaf selection — the pale cream patches on leaves are especially attractive to thrips and spider mites. As a trailing plant it is easy to overlook infestations forming along trailing stems. Quarantine new cuttings for two weeks; thrips commonly hitch a ride on traded cuttings.

Silvery scarring and streaking across variegated sections; distorted new leaves; frass spots on leaf surfaces. Quarantine immediately; remove damaged leaves; apply spinosad or neem oil spray every 5–7 days for three cycles; use sticky traps.

Pale stippling concentrated on the green areas; fine webbing underneath leaves and at node junctions. Shower the plant, apply neem oil or miticide weekly; increase humidity to 55–65% to slow re-infestation.

White waxy fluff at nodes and in leaf axils along trailing stems; sticky residue and yellowing leaves. Spot-treat with isopropyl alcohol swab; follow with neem oil spray every 7–10 days until completely clear.
