What's eating my pelargonium x domesticum 'lavender grand slam'?

Pelargonium x domesticum 'Lavender Grand Slam' is most commonly attacked by vine weevil, aphids, and whitefly. When grown as patio or indoor container plants, caterpillars (geranium tortrix) also damage leaves and buds. Aphids cluster on new growth and buds, causing distortion and sticky honeydew, and are the most frequent threat.

Soft-bodied colonies on new shoots and flower buds; distorted growth, sticky honeydew and sooty mould on leaves. Blast off with water; apply insecticidal soap or neem oil spray; introduce or encourage ladybirds and lacewings outdoors.

C-shaped white larvae eat roots at the crown causing sudden wilting and plant collapse; adult beetles notch leaf margins at night. Drench compost with pathogenic nematodes (Steinernema kraussei) in late summer; use vine-weevil-specific nematode treatments for container plants.

Small green caterpillars spin leaves together with fine webbing and eat holes in foliage and petals, leaving ragged edges. Remove by hand; apply Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) spray to foliage; remove and destroy rolled leaves containing pupae.

Tiny white-winged adults and scale-like nymphs on leaf undersides; leaves yellow and become coated in sticky honeydew. Use yellow sticky traps; spray with insecticidal soap or pyrethrin; introduce Encarsia formosa parasitic wasp under cover.
