What's eating my pelargonium 'chocolate mint'?

Pelargonium 'Chocolate Mint' is a scented-leaved pelargonium susceptible to aphids on soft new growth, whitefly under leaves, and spider mites in warm indoor conditions. Vine weevil grubs can devastate container-grown plants. Aphids are the most frequent pest encountered on this cultivar.

Colonies of soft insects on young shoots; honeydew deposits, distorted leaves, and reduced vigour. Knock off with a strong water spray; apply insecticidal soap or neem oil; introduce natural predators outdoors.

Adult whitefly disturbed from leaves; yellowing foliage with sticky residue and black sooty mould. Yellow sticky traps near the plant; pyrethrin-based or insecticidal soap spray repeated weekly.

Tiny pale dots on leaves, webbing on undersides; foliage looks dusty or bronzed in dry, heated rooms. Raise humidity around the plant; apply neem oil or use predatory mite Phytoseiulus persimilis; remove worst-affected leaves.

Notched leaf edges; container plants suddenly wilt as root-feeding grubs cause structural damage. Apply nematode drench in late summer; inspect roots when repotting and physically remove any grubs found.
