What's eating my nepenthes sibuyanensis?

Nepenthes sibuyanensis is a rare Philippine highland Nepenthes grown in humid indoor or terrarium conditions. Like other tropical pitcher plants, it is susceptible to mealybugs and spider mites in cultivation, especially when humidity is too low. Fungus gnats exploit the moist acidic medium. Its pitchers trap insects but do not shield the plant itself.

Cottony white masses at leaf bases and along stems; honeydew residue; weakened, discoloured growth. Isolate the plant immediately. Dab colonies with isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab. Spray with insecticidal soap, covering all surfaces; repeat weekly.

Tiny pale speckling on leaf surfaces; fine webbing between leaves and pitchers; leaves bronze and drop if untreated. Raise humidity immediately — spider mites thrive in dry air. Spray foliage with water daily. Apply insecticidal soap or dilute neem oil; repeat every 5–7 days.

Larvae damage roots in the humid, organic medium; adults hover around the plant and potting mix surface. Top-dress with coarse perlite to dry the surface layer. Use yellow sticky traps; drench medium with Bti solution to destroy larvae.
