What's eating my mosaic vase plant?

Mosaic Vase Plant (Guzmania musaica) is a tank bromeliad grown indoors, where scale insects and mealybugs are the most common threats, sheltering in the rosette and leaf axils. Spider mites appear in low humidity. Fungus gnats breed in stagnant water in the central tank or wet potting mix. Refresh the tank water weekly and maintain good airflow to reduce risk.

Tan or brown waxy bumps on leaf undersides and along the rosette base; leaf yellowing and loss of pattern vibrancy. Dab with isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab and spray neem oil over the entire rosette fortnightly; avoid soaking the growing medium.

White fluffy colonies in leaf axils and inside the central cup; honeydew deposits attracting sooty mold. Remove with alcohol swab, flush tank with clean water, and apply insecticidal soap or neem oil spray weekly until gone.

Larvae feed on roots and organic matter in wet medium; adults hover around the plant; root damage causes wilting. Change tank water weekly to prevent stagnation; let potting medium dry between waterings; use yellow sticky traps and Bti drench for larvae.
