What's eating my many fingers?

Many Fingers (Sedum pachyphyllum) is a finger-leafed succulent houseplant most troubled by mealybugs collecting in the tight leaf and stem joints. Root mealybugs also occur and are a serious threat given the succulent's sensitivity to root damage. Spider mites can appear in dry winter conditions.

White cottony deposits at the junction of finger-like leaves and stem; slow growth; honeydew on lower stems Apply 70% isopropyl alcohol with a cotton swab to each colony; treat the whole plant with neem oil spray every 10–14 days

Sudden wilting or leaf drop despite good care; white powder on roots visible when the plant is unpotted Remove from pot, rinse roots, and allow to dry; repot in fresh well-draining mix; drench with neem solution monthly until resolved

Faint webbing between leaves; pale stippling or dull appearance to the normally blue-green leaf tips Wipe leaves with a damp cloth; apply insecticidal soap spray; ensure good airflow and reduce indoor heating drafts
