What's eating my knock out rose?

Knock Out Roses are tough but not pest-proof. Aphids congregate on new growth, Japanese beetles skeletonize leaves in summer, and rose sawfly larvae create translucent leaf patches in spring. Deer browse canes if hungry. Thanks to strong disease resistance, pest pressure is usually lighter than on hybrid teas.

Clusters of tiny insects on shoot tips and buds; sticky residue, leaf curl, and stunted flowers. Knock off with water; apply insecticidal soap or neem oil; biological controls (ladybugs, parasitic wasps) help maintain balance.

Skeletonized leaves with only veins remaining; flowers eaten; adults visible July–August. Hand-pick daily into soapy water; pyrethrin for heavy pressure; apply milky spore or beneficial nematodes to soil for grub control.

Pale, window-pane patches on leaves in spring as larvae feed on the surface; later leaves turn brown and fall. Inspect leaf undersides in spring; remove by hand or with spinosad; insecticidal soap works on young larvae.

Fine stippling on leaves; bronzed, dry texture; fine webbing on undersides during hot, dry summers. Mist foliage to raise humidity; spray undersides with water; miticide or neem oil for established infestations.
