What's eating my hoya linearis?

Hoya Linearis is a soft, pendulous hoya with thin, slightly fuzzy linear leaves, making it more susceptible to mealybugs than most hoyas — the texture provides ideal hiding spots. Spider mites are a close second threat, especially in dry air. Scale insects occasionally appear. Its trailing stems require careful inspection at every node.

White powdery wax tucked into stem nodes and between the narrow linear leaves; yellowing foliage and a generally weak, limp appearance. Treat with alcohol swabs along every node; spray insecticidal soap or neem oil thoroughly. Isolate and repeat weekly. Root mealybugs are possible too — drench with neem if growth stalls.

Pale or silvery speckle pattern on the soft linear leaves, webbing at stem bases, and leaves drying out faster than normal in heated rooms. Raise humidity; gently shower the trailing stems to dislodge mites; apply diluted neem oil spray every 5–7 days for 3 treatments.

Small hard bumps along the wiry stems, causing sections of the trailing vine to yellow and drop leaves as the infestation progresses. Remove with a soft toothbrush dipped in soapy water; apply horticultural oil spray and repeat every 2 weeks until clear.
