What's eating my hakonechloa all gold?

Hakonechloa 'Aureola' (All Gold) is nearly pest-free in suitable shade conditions. Slugs and snails are the most realistic threat, attracted by the moist, shady sites this grass prefers. Spider mites have been recorded occasionally in commercial growing. Deer generally avoid it. Fungal leaf spot can appear if foliage stays wet.

Irregular holes and shredded edges on broad leaf blades; silvery slime trails on foliage and surrounding soil; worst in cool, humid, shaded positions. Apply iron phosphate pellets around clumps; hand-pick after dark or in wet evenings. Reduce dense mulch at the crown; improve air circulation.

Fine pale stippling on golden blades; barely-visible webbing on leaf undersides in warm, dry spells; mainly a concern in container culture or dry summers. Increase humidity with regular watering; spray leaf undersides with water. Apply insecticidal soap or neem oil if stippling spreads.
