What's eating my geranium 'ann folkard'?

Geranium 'Ann Folkard' is generally robust, but vine weevil grubs, slugs, and aphids are the main threats in garden borders. Deer and rabbits occasionally browse young growth. Check soil for vine weevil larvae if plants wilt suddenly, and use slug pellets or barriers during wet spring weather.

Plants wilt and collapse as C-shaped white grubs eat roots; adults notch leaf edges at night. Apply nematodes (Heterorhabditis bacteriophora) to moist soil in late summer; use vine weevil killer drench for pots.

Irregular holes in leaves and stems, silvery slime trails, worst in wet conditions. Use ferric phosphate pellets, copper tape, or go out at night to hand-pick; encourage hedgehogs and ground beetles.

Clustered soft insects on new shoots cause distorted, sticky growth and sooty mould. Knock off with a strong water jet; introduce ladybirds or lacewings; spray with insecticidal soap if heavy.
