What's eating my graptoveria 'fred ives'?

Graptoveria 'Fred Ives' is most commonly troubled by mealybugs hiding in rosette centres and leaf axils. Spider mites can colonise the leaf surfaces in warm, dry rooms. Its fleshy rosettes are attractive to sap-suckers. Scale insects are occasionally found on stems. Mealybugs are the single most likely indoor pest you will encounter.

Fluffy white residue at leaf bases and in the rosette centre; honeydew deposit and leaf drop in heavy infestations. Dab with a cotton swab soaked in 70% isopropyl alcohol; treat the whole plant with dilute neem oil spray.

Fine webbing and pale speckled leaf surface; leaves may shrivel and lose the characteristic purple blush. Wipe down leaves; apply insecticidal soap spray; move plant away from heat sources and improve air circulation.

Brown waxy bumps on stems; sticky residue and yellowing of stems and nearby leaves. Scrape off with a soft brush; apply neem or horticultural oil; inspect stems at every watering.
