What's eating my drosera schizandra?

Drosera schizandra is a rare Queensland sundew grown as a cool-to-intermediate houseplant in high humidity. Its main pest threats in cultivation are fungus gnats in its moist medium and mealybugs at the base of its broad leaves. Spider mites can attack if humidity drops. Its flat, broad trap leaves are effective at catching small insects but not pest arthropods.

Larvae feed on fine roots in the wet sphagnum; heavy populations slow growth and cause yellowing of older leaves. Use yellow sticky traps for adults. Apply Bti biological drench to the medium. Avoid sitting the pot in stagnant tray water for too long without refreshing.

White waxy fluff accumulating at the junction of petioles and the growing crown; weakened, pale new leaves. Treat with isopropyl alcohol on cotton swabs directly on colonies. Spray with insecticidal soap solution, taking care to avoid the adhesive leaf surfaces. Repeat weekly.

Stippling and bronze discolouration on broad leaf blades; webbing visible at low magnification; tentacles lose mucilage in bad infestations. Maintain humidity above 70%. Rinse foliage gently with distilled water. Apply neem oil to leaf undersides at 7-day intervals for 3 weeks.
