What's eating my drosera anglica?

Drosera anglica, the great sundew, is grown in outdoor or cool indoor bog conditions. Aphids occasionally attack its flower stems, and fungus gnats proliferate in the permanently moist growing medium. The sticky trap leaves catch some small insects naturally, but they offer no protection against root-feeding larvae or sap-suckers on the non-sticky parts of the plant.

Small insects on flower scapes and newly emerging leaves; stunted flower development; honeydew residue. Remove by dabbing with a moist cloth or a fine jet of water. Insecticidal soap spray can be used sparingly on non-leaf surfaces; avoid the trap tentacles.

Larvae feed on roots and decomposing organic matter in the wet sphagnum; adults congregate around the water tray. Maintain strict water-tray hygiene; refresh water regularly. Use yellow sticky traps for adults. Bti drench eliminates larvae in the medium.

If grown indoors at lower humidity, fine webbing and pale stippling may appear on leaves; the mucilage can mask early symptoms. Raise humidity to 60%+ around the plant. Gently rinse foliage with distilled water spray. Apply dilute neem oil to the undersides of leaves as needed.
