What's eating my dracaena fragrans sol?

Dracaena fragrans 'Sol' is rarely troubled by pests indoors. Spider mites are the most common threat, especially in dry rooms, causing pale stippling on leaves. Mealybugs and scale insects can colonise stem joints. Keep humidity up, inspect leaf undersides regularly, and isolate any new plant before introducing it to your collection.

Pale yellow stippling or silvery streaking on leaves; fine webbing visible in severe infestations, particularly in dry indoor air. Raise humidity, wipe leaves with a damp cloth, and spray with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Repeat weekly for 3–4 weeks.

White cottony fluff in stem joints and leaf axils; leaves become sticky with honeydew and may yellow and drop. Dab individual bugs with a cotton swab dipped in 70% isopropyl alcohol; follow up with neem oil spray. Isolate the plant.

Brown or tan waxy bumps on stems and mid-rib; honeydew residue attracts sooty mould, dulling the foliage. Scrape off scales manually, then treat with horticultural oil or systemic neonicotinoid (houseplant formulation) if infestation is heavy.
