What's eating my golden polypody 'davana'?

Golden Polypody 'Davana' is a tropical houseplant fern most troubled by scale and spider mites. Its thick, waxy fronds offer some physical resistance, but soft scale can establish in the rhizome area. Mealybugs and fungus gnats are secondary concerns. Consistent moisture and good light levels keep the plant vigorous and less prone to pest attack.

Soft or hard brown lumps on frond undersides and along the creeping rhizome; sticky residue; fronds yellow. Wipe with alcohol-soaked cotton; apply neem oil or horticultural oil spray every 7–10 days; check rhizomes carefully.

Fine webbing and speckled, dull fronds particularly in winter when indoor air is dry. Mist regularly or use a humidifier; treat with insecticidal soap spray weekly until all webbing is gone.

White waxy clusters near rhizome bases and in frond axils; plant vigor declines; honeydew present. Spot-treat with isopropyl alcohol; follow with neem oil spray; repeat every 5–7 days.
