What's eating my cymbidium devonianum?

Cymbidium devonianum is a compact, pendant-spiked species often grown in a cool greenhouse or outdoors in summer. Spider mites and scale are the chief indoor threats; aphids and slugs attack when plants spend time outside. Its pendulous spikes hang close to the bench, making the buds easy targets for slugs and snails.

Fine webbing and pale yellow stippling on the strap leaves; foliage may bronze in heavy infestations. Mist daily to raise humidity, wipe leaves, and apply neem oil or insecticidal soap spray every 5–7 days.

Hard oval bumps on pseudobulbs and leaves; sticky honeydew; sooty mold may develop. Scrape off and apply horticultural or neem oil; recheck and repeat after two weeks to catch crawlers.

Soft-bodied insects clustering on flower spike buds and new growths; honeydew and distortion. Knock off with water; spray with insecticidal soap or neem oil weekly until populations collapse.

Holes and ragged notches in pendant flower spikes and emerging root tips near the pot surface. Use iron phosphate pellets around and under pots; hand-pick at night; raise pots off the ground.
